Winter talks are held in the Guildhall, Bore Street, Lichfield on the third Wednesday from September to March (excluding December), starting at 7.30pm. The cost is £3 for members and £5 for non members.

Wednesday 21st January 2026, 7.30pm A Railway Mystery Journey

Robert Mee returns with another of his fascinating talks to explore the history of the railway timetable, followed by a mystery tour using a copy of Bradshaw's Guide from 1922. A history mystery tour! Robert’s live presentation is guaranteed to surpass that of a certain former MP known for his TV series!

 

Tuesday 24th February 2026 at 2.30pm The Good and the Bad and the Deadly (part 2) Sheelagh James returns to entertain and inform us with part 2 of The Good, The Bad and The Deadly. Medicine (but not as we know it) in Georgian Times; part 2 is a further investigation of some medical advances and failures. A standalone talk, it looks at some of the prominent medical men of the time, whose patients included those still famous today and some who had connections to Lichfield. Illegal practices, professional jealousies and ignorance

 

Wednesday 18th March 2026, 7.30pm From Warsaw WWII to Cosford

David Kent talks to us about his personal and family journey from Warsaw during World War 2 to RAF Cosford. Picking up on the Staffordshire Notable, RJ Mitchell article further on (page 12) in this newsletter, Spitfires will feature prominently!

Local historian Jono Oates will give a talk featuring 20 photographs of Lichfield through the ages with Jono providing appropriate context and commentary
