Wednesday 27th March, 7:30pm: AGM followed by "A History of Repton" Andy Austen

Richard Finch of the Repton History Society explains why the historical significance of Repton is out of all proportion to its current status as a pleasant village dominated by Repton School. Beginning as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, Repton has witnessed some of the most important events in British history. After King Wiglaf’s grandson, Prince Wystan, was murdered by his uncle in 850, miracles were ascribed to him and he became a saint – the patron saint of Repton Church. Modern-day excavations have added to our knowledge of the Vikings and what they did in and around Repton.

Wednesday 18th September, 7.30pm: Castles of Derbyshire - Robert Mee

Local historian Robert Mee gives us a potted history of the castle as a concept, then takes us on a tour of all definite and possible castle sites in our neighbouring county. Derbyshire may not be renowned for its castles, but apart from those already on the tourist trail, we’ll hear about some forgotten ruins and even significant bumps in the ground that once represented much more.

Find out how that happened and what you can see there today.
